NEWTON — The Friends of the Gale Library would like to thank everyone who donated items or assisted in their Yard Sale fundraiser. This very successful event was made possible by the hard work of the Friends and the generosity of others in the community. Gratitude is expressed to the Friends and everyone who participated in the sale!

This month’s Evening Book Group will meet on Mon., May 20 to discuss, “The Paris Wife”, by Paula McLain. This title is our first sponsored Reads-to-Go kit! New members are always invited to attend.

Join us on Tues., May 21 at 10:00 a.m. as Mrs. Mears will host a Fancy Nancy Tea Party Storyhour. Children and parents enjoy this special occasion to listen to stories along with delicious treats!

Jasmine our READ dog will be visiting each Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. to listen to youngsters read their favorite book. If you haven’t signed up yet, there still is time to join us in this rewarding experience.

Game Night will be held on Wed., May 22 at 6:00 p.m. Enjoy a game of cribbage, or stop by with friends to play Wii.

Our Yarn Club meets each Friday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. All are welcome to bring a current project or peruse through our collection of crafting books to select a new one. Experienced members are here to provide assistance.

A reminder that we will be closed on Mon., May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.

    Meredith, NH — Elwood (Al) Shaw, 93, of Center Harbor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Forestview Manor in Meredith. He was the beloved husband of the late Greta L. (Sykes) Shaw, to whom he was married for 62 years.

  • Jo Ann Hughes, 79

    Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
