Plaistow Library News

PLAISTOW — The library will be closed for Memorial Day on Mon., May 27.

Don’t forget the library loans DVDs as well as books. We have a great selection of new DVDs to pick from, including many Oscar-nominated hits like Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook, Hitchcock, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo and Flight. Call the library to place a hold on any of these titles. They loan for one week. Fines on dvds are $1.00 a day. Our nonfiction and TV series are expanding too; browse the new dvd section to find many fresh options.

On Mon., May 20, Stories with Savannah is available for ages 6 and up. Register for a 15 minute time slot between 4 and 5 pm to cuddle and practice reading with this very special therapy dog. Presented by Tail Waggin’ Tutors for ages 6 and up.

When Katarina Bishop was three, her parents took her to the Louvre… to case it. For her seventh birthday, Katarina and her uncle traveled to Austria… to steal the crown jewels. What happens when teenage Katarina dares to leave the family business behind? Find out by reading “Heist Society” by Ally Carter, this month’s teen book club pick. Teen Voices meets every fourth Wednesday for ages 13 and up. Discuss the book on Wed., May 22 at 6:00 p.m. Ask at the front desk for a copy to read. Please register online in advance.

Browse our website to find out what museum passes are available to reserve. The Canterbury Shaker Village is open again May 21 for its summer hours. Visit our website for more details.

Don’t forget about Tech Talks, offered by our tech-savvy librarians on Mondays at noon and 6:30 p.m. Do you have a new eReader you need help figuring out? Or do you want to learn how to save your reading history or make a list of books you want to read, on our library catalog Koha? Ask a librarian for instruction during Tech Talks.

Join us for LEGO/WII Fridays to build with our large LEGOs collection or challenge yourself to a game of Wii. Preschool children meet 1:00-2:30 p.m., School-aged children 3:00-4:30 p.m.

As always, follow us online at www.plaistowlibrary.com, Facebook and twitter for news and updates.
