PLAISTOW - The Friends are having a Book Sale on Mother’s Day, May 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Browse the sale to find a gift for mom, a friend, or for yourself. Donations are being accepted till Fri., May 10. No moldy or tattered books, textbooks, or encyclopedias, please. The Friends are also holding a drawing for an iPad Touch - tickets are $1.00 each or six for $5.00. Purchase your tickets at the desk. The winner will be picked May 11 during the book sale. The desk is also selling “Smencils:” fragrant pencils made from 100 % recycled newspapers. Each Smencil is $1.00 and benefits the Friends of the Library. Come in and choose from fun flavors like razzle berry and cherry vanilla.

The staff at the Plaistow Public Library would like to thank the Friends for their appreciation on National Library Week, April 14-20. The Friends sponsored a delicious staff luncheon and gave us corsages. The community and staff are incredibly lucky to have such dedicated and thoughtful friends serving us. We extend our gratitude wholeheartedly.

Sat., May 4 is this month’s Family Film. Popcorn and drink are provided; all ages welcome. No registration required. Call the library for the movie title.

Card-Making with Colleen continues on Tues., May 7, at 6:30 p.m. Visit our website to view card designs. Make two each of four designs for a total of 8 cards for a materials fee of $15.00. Please bring adhesive and scissors. This is an adult level class.

Ages 7-12 may join Miss Nancy for a Children’s Series Book Club on the second Wednesday of every month. Play games, make crafts, use multimedia and be creative about different series each month.     Meredith, NH — Elwood (Al) Shaw, 93, of Center Harbor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Forestview Manor in Meredith. He was the beloved husband of the late Greta L. (Sykes) Shaw, to whom he was married for 62 years.

    Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
