October at SPL

SANDOWN – Sandown Public Library has planned lots of activities for all ages during the month of October. Be sure to check the Calendar on the library website, www.sandownlibrary.us, for all the details and to register for each event.

Busy Bears Story Hours

in Full Swing: Introduce your child to the joy of reading by attending Busy Bears Story Hour at the library every Tuesday at the library. Miss Jenn has planned a variety of activities and stories for each week including Autumn Leaves, Fire Safety with a trip to the Fire Station, mice stories, and of course, Halloween. Two sessions are held each Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Hawke the Reading Dog: Hawke’s monthly visit is scheduled for Thurs., October 4 at 3:30 p.m. Hawke was thrilled with the turnout in September and loved hearing all the great stories. Join the fun and make Hawke’s tail wag by reading to her. Children of all ages are welcome.

Library Closed

for Columbus Day: The Library will be closed on Mon., October 8, in observance of Columbus Day.

Two Showings of Movie

on Mon., October 15! Award-winning comedy, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” will be shown twice on Mon., October 15 at 1:00 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be available at the afternoon performance as part of our monthly Movie and Social program. Because of the popularity of the movie, the library will host Dinner and a Movie beginning at 5:30 p.m. with pizza! Attendees are invited to bring their own non-alcoholic beverage.

Books & Bites! Adult Book Discussion: On Tues. October 16 at 6:30 p.m., Books & Bites book group will discuss this month’s selection, “The History of Love” by Nicole Krauss. Copies of the book are available at the library.

Make a

3D Paper Pumpkin (ages 8-12): Beginning at 6:30 p.m., on Wed., October 17, Miss Jen will teach children how to create a fun 3D pumpkin using simple folding and gluing techniques. This pumpkin makes a wonderful Halloween decoration and the program is recommended for children ages 8-12. Sign ups are required for this program.

  • Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown, 66

    Ft. Gibson, OK — Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown passed away February 17, 2013, at her home in Ft. Gibson, Okla., after a brave battle with cancer. Kitty was born in Brentwood, N.H., on April 21, 1946, to the late Chester H. Clements and Catherine F. (Morse) Clements. She was raised in Kingston, N.H., and graduated from Sanborn Seminary. She lived for many years on Plum Island, Mass. While living on Plum Island, she was a columnist and photographer for The Daily News of Newburyport, as well as a school bus driver.

  • Ted "Teddy" Bolduc

    Fremont, N.H. — Ted “Teddy” Burleigh Bolduc, was born the youngest son of Phyllis and Joseph Bolduc Sr., on May 22, 1962. He died suddenly April 8, 2013, after a brief illness. Ted lived for most of his life in Fremont and Raymond. He was well known for his skills with heavy equipment and worked all his life in construction and excavation in the Fremont and Epping area. In addition to his work, he loved ice hockey, baseball, hunting, country music, and animals, especially his dog Finlay. He was very proud of, and also loved by, his very large family.
