DANVILLE – Celebrate the freedom to read during National Banned Books week from September 30 to October 6 at Colby Library in Danville. The freedom to read is essential to our democracy and reading is among our greatest freedoms. Check out our display of challenged and banned books.
The Colby Memorial Library will host a talk and slide show on the history of the Underground Railroad on Thurs., October 11 at 7:00 p.m. The presentation will be given by Eleanor Strang, retired director of the Kelley Library in Salem. The Underground Railroad was a secret network in the years before the Civil War which assisted fugitive slaves as they escaped to freedom. Ms. Strang’s presentation will focus on the history of this network on a national level, and then on the abolitionist movement and Underground Railroad activities in New England, particularly New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Some of the people involved are quite well known, but many are not. This program is free and open to the public
The Mystery & Suspense Book Club is reading Sue Grafton’s, “V is for Vengeance”. Stop in and pick up a copy to be discussed on Thurs., October 4 at 7:00 p.m.
