SANDOWN — Visit Sandown Public Library this December for some festive events for children!

Kids Cupcake Decorating: Two fun events will take place on Sat., December 8. The morning brings some holiday sweets with Kids Cupcake Decorating for children ages 9 and older. Join Miss Jen at 10:30 a.m. to learn how to decorate a cupcake that will look as good as it tastes! Children will also create a special candy treat to take home. Saturday Matinee: The library will also show the children’s movie, “Arthur Christmas”, rated PG, at 1 p.m. on Sat., December 8. Meet Santa’s youngest son, Arthur, on an urgent mission that he must complete before Christmas morning, and answer the age old question of how Santa delivers all of the presents in just one night. Popcorn and Twizzlers will be provided.

Rockin’ Readers Book Group: All 4th through 6th graders are invited to join our monthly book group on Wed., December 19 at 3:30 p.m. December’s book selection is “The Sign of the Beaver” by Elizabeth George Speare. This book centers on 13 year old Matt, left alone to guard the family’s new cabin in the woods. When a stranger steals his gun, Matt knows he has no way to shoot game or to protect himself. Only after meeting the proud, resourceful Indian boy Attean does Matt begin to understand the way of the Beaver clan and their growing problem in adapting to the white man and the changing frontier. A delicious snack will follow a lively discussion. Cupcake Ornament: The holiday fun continues with a program for children 6 and older on making a cute ornament that looks like a cupcake! Thursday Evening Movie: Spend a Thursday evening at the library watching the latest in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie series, “Dog Days”. Greg and the gang are back for some summer fun - and mischief. When Greg’s dad threatens to send him to military school if he doesn’t stay out of trouble, he finds plenty of new ways to land himself in the doghouse! This movie is rated PG and will be shown on Thurs., December 27 at 6:00 p.m. Children are welcome to bring a snack...and a friend!
