HAMPSTEAD - On Mon., December 17, at 7:00 p.m., the Non-Fiction Book Group at the Hampstead Public Library will be discussing “In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin” by Erik Larson. This novel gives a real-life, eyewitness perspective inside the Nazi hierarchy as Hitler came to power. It also sheds light on why it took so long for the world to recognize the threat posed by Hitler. Copies of the book are available at the library’s front desk. Newcomers are always welcome, and are encouraged to come and help choose further books for the group to read and discuss in 2013.

FREE MOVIE SHOWING - Come to the Hampstead Public Library on Tues., December 18, for a bit of warmth and a free movie showing. Vincent Minnelli directs a heartwarming tale which evokes family life in St. Louis at the time of the 1904 World’s Fair. This lively film, starring Judy Garland, has musical numbers that are splendidly part of the storytelling, including: “Meet Me in St. Louis,” “The Boy Next Door,” “Trolley Song,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” You have two chances to see the movie – a matinee at 1:30PM and an evening showing at 6:30PM. This movie screening is free and open to the public. See www.HampsteadLibrary.org for details.

THIRD THURSDAY BOOK DISCUSSION - On December 20th, at 1:00 p.m., the Third Thursday Book Group of the Hampstead Public Library will be discussing “The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating” by Elisabeth Tova Bailey. The author shares an inspiring story of her uncommon encounter with a woodland snail, while an illness keeps her bedridden. Told with wit and grace, this novel is a remarkable journey of survival and resilience, showing us how a small part of the natural world can provide an appreciation of what it means to be fully alive. Copies of the book are available at the library’s front desk, and newcomers are always welcome.

STORYTIME - Storytime at the Hampstead Library for 3 to 5 year old children will not take place between December 17th and January 4th. New sessions begin on January 7, 2013. The last 2012 Mother Goose on the Loose Storytime (for infants and children to age 2 with a caregiver) will take place on Tues., December 18th. New sessions begin on Tues., January 8. No sign-up is required for Storytime.
