PLAISTOW — The Plaistow Library will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday from Wed., November 27, beginning at 3:00 p.m., through Sun., November 24.

The Friends of the Library’s Dollhouse Raffle continues through December 16. Members of the Small Passions Miniatures Club donated hundreds of hours of labor to craft a truly spectacular dollhouse. Tickets are available at the circulation desk. The Friends’ invite all library supporters to their next meeting on Mon., December 2, at 6:00 p.m.

Our new book group continues its series of discussions and is now reading “Still Alice”, Lisa Genova’s eloquent debut novel about a 50-year-old woman’s sudden descent into early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Copies will be available for pickup at the library in a variety of formats (print, audiobook, and large print). All are welcome to attend on Wed., December 11 at 10:30 a.m.

At “Tween Town” on Tues., December 3 at 4:00 p.m., we’ll be making “Candy Sushi” in a holiday theme. Use different types of candy to create sushi-looking treasures! Grades 6 - 8, registration required.

The final Diary of a Wimpy Kid “Wimpy Wednesday” Book Club for grades 2-5 is Wed., December 4 at 4:00 p.m. Activities include: discussion of the entire book series as well as the new book released on November 5, “Hard Luck”, exploration of the Wimpy Kid website with games and trivia, special crafts and projects. Registration is required.

The Recreation Department and the Youth Services Department of the library will hold the annual “Ornament Making” event for children up to age 12, on Sat., December 7, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Registration is required for this event as space is limited. Please register with either the Recreation Department or on the library’s calendar page.

Regular weekly children’s programs include: Slumber Storytime on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. for ages 3-5, Baby Lapsite Storytime on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. for ages 0-2, Toddler Storytime on Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m., and Lego / Wii on Fridays, from 1:00-4:30 p.m.

    LAWRENCE — Marie Rose (Robidoux) Audy, passed away at her home surrounded by her family, after suffering a stroke in April. She was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late Rose A. (Betit) and Alfred Robidoux, originally of Quebec, Canada. She was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Armand Joseph Audy, who passed away on June 28, 1976.

  • Francis M. Lurvey, 76

    Bar Harbor, ME — Francis M. Lurvey passed away Sunday, June 22, in Bar Harbor, Maine, after battling cancer. By his side were his sons, Edwin Lurvey and Steven Lurvey and his niece and husband, Debra and Richard Carey, as well as cousin, Marion McDonald. He was the son of Edwin R Lurvey (Bar Harbor) and Delia Amazeen (Dexter). He is survived by five children, a stepson, and their families. His sons, Edwin and wife April, Steven and wife, Pam, David and his daughter, Meghan, as well as his daughters, Lorraine and Ellen and her husband, Paul DiScipio with daughters, Katherine and Julia, and his stepson, Brian Faulkner and wife, Jody with children, Trevor, Rachel, and Keith. He is also survived by his sister, Sheryl, and many nieces and nephews including Frank Lurvey and Elaine Langer. Francis was predeceased by his twin brother, Frank, as well as his brothers, Edwin and Erwin. He was also predeceased by his longtime companion, Brian and Edwin’s mother, Maureen Faulkner and former wife, Roberta Lurvey Gilmore.

Predeceased by his wife, Alice Hopper, he is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Joann Peatfield; daughters, Shay Belair and Jayne Pond; sons-in-law, Adam Belair and James Pond; mother, Arlene Hopper; father and stepmother, Frederick S. and Barbara Hopper; siblings, Susan Hardy, Stephan Hopper, Scott Hopper, and Sherri Chagnon; grandsons, Benjamin Belair, Jonathan Belair and Jackson Pond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
