East Kingston Library News

---- — EAST KINGSTON — As the holiday season gears up, a number of movies are coming out soon based upon popular books. The Hunger Games young adult series of books appealed to adults as well as young people. The second installment of the story, “Catching Fire” will soon be in theaters. All titles of the trilogy are available here at the East Kingston Public Library so you can catch up on the story line or even move ahead to the final chapter in “Mockingjay”.

“The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak is another young adult crossover that topped the New York Times Bestseller List for weeks and weeks. Set in Nazi Germany with Death as the omnipresent narrator, there is a beauty to the prose that rightly earns it a place on the adult bookshelf. In a digital age, when some question the viability of the printed word, here is a story that celebrates the triumph of the printed word and its ability to help people maintain their humanity in the most inhuman of times.

At the East Kingston Public Library we also are building a great selection of classic movies from Gone with the Wind to the Robert Redford Gatsby. Many of these classics are family friendly and a great choice for holiday gatherings.

Remember that the Friends are hosting an Open House on Sun., December 1 at 3:00 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you all and hope to enhance your holidays with books, programs and DVDs that you and your families will enjoy.
