PLAISTOW —’Beneath The Surface’ is our Teen Summer Reading theme. Let’s have an ‘Underground’ themed Scavenger Hunt! On Thurs., August 1 at 6:00 p.m., follow the clues on the sheet, and hints given by Miss Cara, and hunt for the answers. This activity is for ages 11 and up. Prizes will be awarded and snacks provided. Registration Required. Then celebrate Summer Reading Week Six’s “Earthmoving Madness” theme with events relating to all things underground. On Thurs., August 8 at 11:00 a.m. ages 3-12 may join us for crafts, activities, and games relating to big digging machines. In the afternoon on August 8 the Imajine That museum presents “Science Explorers Animal Habitats!” In this science workshop designed for ages 3-6, we’ll be making scenes and habitats for animals that live underground, like worms, bunnies, and foxes. These programs are intended for those enrolled in the Plaistow Public Library Summer Reading Program; please register in advance as space is limited.

Our library’s dynamic and active Friends of the Library group meets Mon., August 5 at 6:30. The Friends sponsor many of our library’s popular offerings, including numerous museum passes and programs. Come by a meeting to learn more about what the Friends do and find out how you can help.

Visit the library Wed., August 7 for this week’s family movie relating to the underground theme. The movie begins at 5:45 p.m. and refreshments will be served. Registration is required. All ages welcome.

The next ‘Dear Teen Me’ Book Club will be held Tues., August 6, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for grades 9-12. This is a required reading selection for all TRHS students this summer. Cara Marsh, our youth services assistant, assists students with timelines for completing the required assignments associated with the reading. Refreshments will be served. Registration is recommended.

The library’s ongoing cribbage and bridge matches meet on Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. Come and play a game with friends, enjoy a cup of coffee and light refreshments. Children may enjoy Friday Afternoon Legos and Wii starting at 1:00 p.m.: build with our large LEGO collection, or challenge yourself to a game of Wii. No registration required.
