EPPING —On Sat., June 8 the library will host its first Writer’s Conference, an opportunity to meet other writers in the area and to share work samples, contact information and ideas about publishing. From 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. there will be gatherings for Children /YA and Poetry; from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Fiction and Non-Fiction. This conference is for adults only. Admission is free and light refreshments will be provided.

The Summer Reading Program Volunteers will be meeting again on Thurs., June 13 at 4:15 to design staff T-shirts, sign-up for various SRP tasks and discuss scheduling. Students finishing grade 5 or above this spring are eligible to volunteer for the SRP crew. Contact Miss Tracie with questions.

The annual Toy Sale to benefit the library’s summer reading program is scheduled for Sat., June 22 this year. Donations of clean, gently used toys, games and sports equipment can be dropped off at the library during operating hours. In the case of larger items, please call the children’s room to make arrangements. Sale items will be stored off-site until June 21. Also needed are volunteers who are willing to help clean, sort and price toys and/or help on Set-up Day, Fri., June 21 and Sale Day. Please call 679-5944 if you would like to help out.

A summer of Digging into Reading will begin with registration week, June 24-29 and continue through most of August. As in past years, Epping readers will be asked to record their reading time and will get compensated $1.00 in library currency to spend in the SRP Store which opens July 9. Weekly crafts, challenges and special events will give young patrons something different to try each time they visit the library during the summer. Assisted by middle school volunteers the staff looks forward to a fun summer of reading and ways to “dig into” history, archeology, gardening, underground animals and new interests!

    Meredith, NH — Elwood (Al) Shaw, 93, of Center Harbor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Forestview Manor in Meredith. He was the beloved husband of the late Greta L. (Sykes) Shaw, to whom he was married for 62 years.

  • Jo Ann Hughes, 79

    Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
