East Kingston Library News

By Diane Sheckells

---- — EAST KINGSTON —We are displaying an eclectic mix of art this month at the East Kingston Public Library. The work will be on display for one month. We thought it might be nice to show a selection of work by our talented patrons and staff.

Donna L. Johnson is a self-taught artist and cancer survivor who used art to help in her healing process. Her love of New Hampshire is obvious in her work. Her topics and materials are diverse: from found objects to reverse glass painting. The strong use of line in her work is a recurring element.

Nancy Reiss is another artist who responded to a health challenge through the study of art. She worked with various teachers and her watercolors depict both scenes of New Hampshire and her travels. Her colors are bright and fresh. Each painting glows like a little jewel remembering perhaps a sunlit moment.

Heather Lindsay is a staff member and art education major at Plymouth State College. She has brought us her recent work from drawing class. Her monochromatic studies of large scale cameras are eye-catching and complement my own fiber art. My quilts echo Heather’s color palette and explore the use of negative space. As a member of the Seacoast Modern Quilt Guild, I have been working with traditional designs and modern fabrics and settings.
