HAMPSTEAD —After the incredible success of the expanded Friends of the Hampstead Public Library Auction in 2011 the Friends have pushed the event up yet another notch. On November 15, they will host a full sit-down dinner to precede the Auction at the Granite Rose in Hampstead.
Now is the time for all area businesses, professionals and organizations to start planning their donations to the Friends for the Auction. The sooner you make your donation the longer your name will be shown on the Auction section of the Friends of the Library’s portion of the library’s web page. That’s essentially “free” publicity for your business for as long as the listing is up. Since donations are listed in the order in which they are received, the earliest donations lead the list.
Donations can take many different forms: whole themed baskets, items to be added to baskets that the Friends will put together, gift cards for your services or for area restaurants or activities, cash to help the Friends fund the event, or almost any other thing you can think of that will enhance the Auction and publicize your business.
Special donations in 2011 included such things as a weekend at an Omni Hotel, a helicopter ride, coffee with Governor John Lynch, a Senate tour from Senator Jean Shaheen, tickets to shows at ACT ONE, tickets to sporting events in Boston and Manchester and so many other outstanding things that are too numerous to mention. But perhaps these few examples will lead your business, professional office or organization to find something really different and special to contribute to the Auction.
All proceeds from the Auction will be used by the Friends of the Library to support library activities that fall outside the town budget allocation. If the library had to depend solely on the budget many of its most popular programs wouldn’t exist. There would be no museum passes, no Summer Reading Program, and no movie nights. The AED wouldn’t be available, nor would the telescope or the ebook readers or the public computers. Can you imagine your library without all these things? If you can’t, then please donate to the Auction and plan to attend on November 15. Tickets will go on sale after Labor Day but please don’t wait that long to donate.
