SANDOWN — Best deal in town! Take advantage of the fantastic offers at your local library. The Sandown Public Library has books, movies, audiobooks, cake pans, museum passes, online classes, Story Hours, craft classes, card games, chess club and more available for anyone with a library card. Come on in or check us out online at www.sandownlibrary.us. Here is a schedule of upcoming events:

Knitting Group- Expert and beginning knitters are always welcome to join the knitting group that meets every Monday night at the library at 6:30 p.m. Bring your current project with you to work on and share your knitting experience with the other crafters.

Busy Bears Preschool Story Hour- On Tues., December 11 and Wed., December 12, Miss Jenn will delight the children with stories, songs and crafts about Gingerbread Babies! Don’t miss the fun!

Cribbage & Cards- Cribbage and Card games begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings at the library. Drop in for a fun time and learn how to play cribbage, whist, 45’s or gin rummy. Brush up on your skills or learn a new game. All ages and abilities are welcome!

Hawke the Reading Dog- Hawke the Reading Dog will be all set for her reading friends beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Thurs., December 6! Give Hawke a special holiday treat by reading her a story. Hawke is a black Labrador and a trained therapy dog who loves to listen to a good story. Children who would like to read to Hawke can choose their own picture/storybook at the library.

Saturday Matinee- The library will show the children’s PG-rated movie, “Arthur Christmas” at 1:00 p.m. on Sat., December 8. Meet Santa’s youngest son, Arthur, on an urgent mission that he must complete before Christmas morning, and answer the age old question of how Santa delivers all of the presents in just one night. Popcorn and Twizzlers will be provided.

Monday Movie Series-Adults are invited to attend our Monday Movie Series on Mon., December 10 with the showing of “Christmas Cottage,” based on the heartwarming story of Thomas Kinkade’s beginning years as an artist in his hometown. Come and find out how Kinkade became known at the “Painter of Light.” The movie will be shown at 1:00 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served at both events.

Books & Bites! Adult Book Discussion- Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Tues., December 18, the book group will discuss, “Death Comes to Pemberley” by P.D. James. Copies of the book are available at the library for everyone interested in joining the book group.

Chess Club- All ages are welcome to Chess Club on Thurs., December 20 at 6:30 p.m. No experience is needed. Chess master Monty Cole is ready to challenge your every move and help strengthen your strategic skills.

Holiday Closings- Reminder to everyone to get their books and dvds early to enjoy over the holidays. The library will be closed on Mon., December 24 and Tues., December 25. The library will re-open on Wed., December 26 at 9:00 a.m. On New Year’s Eve, Mon., December 31 the Library will close early at 4:00 p.m. and be closed all day, New Year’s Day on Tues., January 1. The library will re-open on Wed., January 2 at 9:00 a.m.

  • Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown, 66

    Ft. Gibson, OK — Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown passed away February 17, 2013, at her home in Ft. Gibson, Okla., after a brave battle with cancer. Kitty was born in Brentwood, N.H., on April 21, 1946, to the late Chester H. Clements and Catherine F. (Morse) Clements. She was raised in Kingston, N.H., and graduated from Sanborn Seminary. She lived for many years on Plum Island, Mass. While living on Plum Island, she was a columnist and photographer for The Daily News of Newburyport, as well as a school bus driver.

  • Ted "Teddy" Bolduc

    Fremont, N.H. — Ted “Teddy” Burleigh Bolduc, was born the youngest son of Phyllis and Joseph Bolduc Sr., on May 22, 1962. He died suddenly April 8, 2013, after a brief illness. Ted lived for most of his life in Fremont and Raymond. He was well known for his skills with heavy equipment and worked all his life in construction and excavation in the Fremont and Epping area. In addition to his work, he loved ice hockey, baseball, hunting, country music, and animals, especially his dog Finlay. He was very proud of, and also loved by, his very large family.
