HAMPSTEAD - Join the Friends of the Hampstead Public Library on Tues., March 12, at 7:00 p.m., for a delightful musical performance by the Quint-Essential Winds, a quintet of wind instrument players from the seacoast area of Maine and NH. They have planned a varied program of music by early 20th century European and American composers including such well-known individuals as George Gershwin and Edvard Grieg. There will be something for almost any musical taste, except rock and rap. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available. Members of the Friends are asked to stay after the performance for the regular business meeting.
FAMILY FUN RAFFLE - The Family Fun raffle basket now on display at the library’s front desk will be awarded to the lucky winner just before the program on March 12th. While you don’t have to be present to win the draw, it’s more fun to be there to enjoy your prize. The basket contains the “Breathe NH” coupon book, three (3) one day passes for rock climbing at Vertical Dreams, two (2) coupons for three swings each on a real trapeze at Beantown Trapeze, 4 admissions to the open house at Searles Castle, two (2) tickets for any one mainstage production at ACT ONE in Portsmouth, and some more familiar family fun activity aids including cards, a cupcake making kit and more. Tickets may be purchased at the front desk of the library. They are $1.00 each of 6 for $5.00. All proceeds from the monthly raffles go to the Friends of the Library to help support our outstanding facility.
THRIFT SHOP SALE COMING UP - Bargain hunters alert! The Hollyhock Thrift Shop, located in the basement of the library, is about to have another half-price sale. It starts on March 5th and continues on Saturday the 9th, Tuesday the 12th, and Saturday the 16th. After the sale is over the shop will be closed for restocking starting Tues., March 19, and continuing until it re-opens on Tues., April 2. The sale is a clearance of winter clothing so there will be space for spring and summer clothing when the shop re-opens in April. The shop will start accepting donations of spring and summer clothing for men, women and children on March 26th. When donating good quality, clean, wearable clothing to the Thrift Shop, please don’t pack your bags so heavily that they are hard to carry. The volunteers who staff the shop need to be able to move them easily for sorting. Thank you all for donating to the Thrift Shop. All the proceeds realized from the shop are used by the Friends of the Library to help provide services and equipment that fall outside the regular library budget. Museum passes, the defibrillator, the Wii system, the Summer Reading Program and so much more are funded by the Friends of the Library, not by your taxes in the town budget.
