NEWTON —“Snuggle Up With a Good Book” is the theme for our winter reading programs at the Gale Library, Newton. Registration for the program starts January 15 and continues through March 2. Children can record each book read on a reading log and when they reach a goal, choose prizes and lots of new books from the treasure box. All readers are also eligible to win prizes at the program’s end raffle. There will be drop-in crafts to make, and word puzzles, mazes, and games and Legos for use in the library or at home. Come to the Gale Library, find some good books and get started!

Teens, if you’re wondering how you’re going to survive the cold winter months, stop by the Gale Library, Sign up for the teen reading club, and see our display of books full of adventure/survival. A good way to escape this winter is with a good book! Register and read for weekly prizes.

For our adult readers, read and lose that cabin fever. Just register, read, and take a chance in a weekly prize lottery.

Weekly Storyhours continue each Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Hear about Snowmen, Snowflakes and Mittens in story and song followed by an easy craft. Come Celebrate Amelia Bedelia’s 50th year with a birthday party on Tues., January 29 at 10:00 a.m. Amelia Bedelia will be 50 years young in 2013, and you’re invited to her birthday party! Join us as we celebrate the wacky, fun and hilarious maid who’s been entertaining us for fifty years in books. We will have activities, games, coloring sheets, and more!

Try some winter crafts on Mon., January 14, 6:30 p.m. or Sat., January 19 at 11:00 a.m.

Join your friends for Game Nites on Wed., January 23 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Play board or card games as well as games and activities on Wii. Cribbage for adults and teens meet each Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

Our Valentine Candy Contest will begin soon so visit the Children’s Room and make your best guess of candy hearts. You could be the next winner of them all.

  • Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown, 66

    Ft. Gibson, OK — Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown passed away February 17, 2013, at her home in Ft. Gibson, Okla., after a brave battle with cancer. Kitty was born in Brentwood, N.H., on April 21, 1946, to the late Chester H. Clements and Catherine F. (Morse) Clements. She was raised in Kingston, N.H., and graduated from Sanborn Seminary. She lived for many years on Plum Island, Mass. While living on Plum Island, she was a columnist and photographer for The Daily News of Newburyport, as well as a school bus driver.

  • Ted "Teddy" Bolduc

    Fremont, N.H. — Ted “Teddy” Burleigh Bolduc, was born the youngest son of Phyllis and Joseph Bolduc Sr., on May 22, 1962. He died suddenly April 8, 2013, after a brief illness. Ted lived for most of his life in Fremont and Raymond. He was well known for his skills with heavy equipment and worked all his life in construction and excavation in the Fremont and Epping area. In addition to his work, he loved ice hockey, baseball, hunting, country music, and animals, especially his dog Finlay. He was very proud of, and also loved by, his very large family.
