---- — ATKINSON — ‘Create & Express’ yourself on February 7 if you are in Grades 2-5, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Join us in making large Valentine hearts out of crayon shavings and wax paper. They look beautiful hung from the ceiling or displayed against a window. Your other option is to give it to your favorite valentine. This special activity requires registration so please sign up online, drop by, or give us a call. Seating is limited.

Save this sweet date for kids – Sat., February 9, from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. for ‘Cookies to Decorate’. A cookie story will be read first to get us in a decorating mood, and then it’s up to you to decorate two cookies and eat them! Do your best artwork and see how it tastes! It could be messy, but it definitely will be delicious. Registration is required for this fun event. This is for ages 4-8 only, please.

The lovable Lab is back! Hawke, the reader dog, will be in for another fun and furry visit on Wed., February 20, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. We need you to register to read to Hawke. She’s waiting to hear some great stories, and only you can help! Please come, bring your favorite book, or borrow one of ours, and spend some time reading to our canine friend, Hawke. Register! (If no one registers she will not come.) Parents: no need to worry, Lady Hawke is a trained therapy dog with lots of love and patience.

Atkinson Author, Catherine O’Brien, will be here on Tues., February 19, for a talk and reading of her book, ‘The Apple of Discourse’. The ‘Apple of Discourse’ tells an enthralling love story taking place on a university campus during World War II. Men were scarce during that time because they were ‘over there’. Women had more opportunities due to this shortage. Catherine O’Brien was born a navy brat, but she spent most of her growing up years in Fremont. Since childhood, she has been interested in history and writing. She now lives in Atkinson, with her husband and twelve year-old daughter. The ‘Apple of Discourse’ is her first published novel. Books will be for sale the night of the event.

Planning ahead? We will be closed on Mon., February 18 for Presidents Day. Stock up in advance and enjoy extra time on those two day loans the Friday before the closing.
