SANDOWN — Movies, Music, and Medicare will be featured during the month of March at the Sandown Public Library. Be sure to sign up and mark your calendars now for these great events.

Movie & Social featuring “Argo”.

On Mon., March 11 at 1:00 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m., the Library will host two showings of the movie, “Argo”, an Oscar-nominee for Best Picture. Based on true events, “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis. Refreshments will be served.

Music - New Hampshire Through Song & Story: Continuing with our Everything New England series, enjoy an entertaining music evening at the library with New Hampshire singer/songwriter Don Watson from Gilford, on Wed., March 13 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Watson’s songs are upbeat and inspiring. His newest project ‘Welcome Home New Hampshire’ is a collection of songs based on people, places and events of the granite state. Don partnered with Steve Redic, a poet and historian from Candia, in the writing of these songs.

New To Medicare Workshop: If you are a new enrollee to Medicare, or will be in the next few months, this is the workshop for you! Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Mon., March 18, a ServiceLink representative will conduct an in-depth workshop on Medicare Part A and Part B, Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, Medicare Supplemental Plans, Medicare Advantage and Preventing Medicare Fraud and Abuse. The number of participants is limited and registration is required online or by calling the library at 887-3428. Pizza will be provided thanks to a generous donation from the Friends of the Sandown Public Library.

Books & Bites! Adult Book Discussion: The Library book group will meet on Tues.,, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss, “When the Emperor was Divine” by Julie Otsuka.

Chess Club for all ages! Chess Club will meet on Thurs., March 21 at 6:30 p.m. All ages are welcome to play. No experience is needed. Chess master Monty Cole is ready to challenge your every move and help strengthen your strategic skills.

Friends of the Library Meeting: The Friends of the Library will hold their March meeting on Monday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss upcoming fundraising events. New members are always welcome. Join this active group of volunteers as they work on many activities that supplement the library’s budget and enhance programs and materials offered to the residents of Sandown.

Affinity Membership Program: The Friends have partnered with the TD Bank Affinity program as a fundraising opportunity for the group. Anyone with a TD Bank account or willing to open an account can help the Friends earn money for the library by becoming an Affinity member. There is no cost to participate. Please stop by the library for more details on this program.

Monday Night Knitting: Expert and beginning knitters are always welcome to join the knitting group that meets every Monday night at 6:30 p.m. Bring your current project with you to work on and share your knitting experience with the other crafters.

  • Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown, 66

    Ft. Gibson, OK — Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown passed away February 17, 2013, at her home in Ft. Gibson, Okla., after a brave battle with cancer. Kitty was born in Brentwood, N.H., on April 21, 1946, to the late Chester H. Clements and Catherine F. (Morse) Clements. She was raised in Kingston, N.H., and graduated from Sanborn Seminary. She lived for many years on Plum Island, Mass. While living on Plum Island, she was a columnist and photographer for The Daily News of Newburyport, as well as a school bus driver.

  • Ted "Teddy" Bolduc

    Fremont, N.H. — Ted “Teddy” Burleigh Bolduc, was born the youngest son of Phyllis and Joseph Bolduc Sr., on May 22, 1962. He died suddenly April 8, 2013, after a brief illness. Ted lived for most of his life in Fremont and Raymond. He was well known for his skills with heavy equipment and worked all his life in construction and excavation in the Fremont and Epping area. In addition to his work, he loved ice hockey, baseball, hunting, country music, and animals, especially his dog Finlay. He was very proud of, and also loved by, his very large family.
