---- — NEWTON — November is Fine Free Month at the Gale Library. All fines will be waived in exchange of non-perishable grocery items that will be distributed to the Newton Food Pantry. Please bring in items such as canned goods, paper goods, pasta, and holiday supplies that are in saleable condition and within their expiration date. These community supplies are welcomed and will benefit your neighbors in need.

As we approach the upcoming winter season, an informative program has been scheduled for Wed., November 13 at 6:00 p.m., to welcome Mr. Fred Borman, Rockingham County Field Specialist in Natural Resources for the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension. Mr. Borman will present his program on, “Storm Proofing Your Property: The Effects of Wind, Ice and Snow on Trees, People and Property”.

In the past few years, New Hampshire has sustained severe tree damage from hurricanes, windstorms, ice and snowstorms, and the tornado of July 2008. Homeowners and businesses lost electric power for days at a time. Buildings and property were damaged or destroyed by falling trees and branches. This presentation will cover basic tree biology as well as provide property owners with information they can use to plant and maintain healthy trees and what defects to look for in trees that may result in the failure of a tree or branches during a significant storm. This program is free and open to the public.

The Friends of the Gale Library are now accepting themed-baskets and gift certificates for their annual Christmas Basket Raffle. Tickets will once again sell for only $1.00 each or six for $5.00. All items will be raffled and distributed before the Christmas Holiday. The donations from local businesses and community members are appreciated and inform the public of services/resources that are available. Thank you in advance for your donation to the Friends!

The library will be closed on Mon., November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
