PLAISTOW — Come to the first of a series of book discussions revolving around themes of family, food and home. Sign out your copy of “Muffins & Mayhem: Recipes for a Happy (if disorderly) Life” by Suzanne Beecher. Her book includes recipes for many delicious homemade dishes as well as a lot of food for thought. Participants are welcome to try out a recipe to share. We will meet at the library in the History Room on Wed., November 13, at 10: 30 a.m. The library will provide coffee and, of course, muffins.

“Tween Town” for grades 6-8 meets Tues., November 5, at 4:00 p.m. Celebrate the Hunger Games movie “Catching Fire” coming out this month with a themed activity presented by Ms. Cara. Enjoy crafts and refreshments relating to the movie. Please register online.

Anticipation for the next Diary of a Wimpy Kid book “Hard Luck” coming out this month is the highlight of the next Wimpy Kid Book Club meeting on Wed., November 6, at 4:00 p.m. Come enjoy discussion, games and art to celebrate this popular book series. Students in grades 2-5, please pre-register.

If you can tie your shoes, you can learn to crochet with Miss Jessica. The next “Crochet for Kids” meets Wed., November 20, at 4:00 p.m. All materials provided. Instruction will be geared toward children, however, the accompanying parent may learn as well. Age 5-10. “Crochet for Kids” meets every other Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

The library’s ongoing cribbage and bridge matches meet on Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. Come and play a game with friends, enjoy a cup of coffee and light refreshments. Children may enjoy Friday Afternoon Legos and Wii starting at 1:00 p.m.: build with our large LEGO collection, or challenge yourself to a game of Wii. No registration is required.

  • Elwood (Al) Shaw, 93

    Meredith, NH — Elwood (Al) Shaw, 93, of Center Harbor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Forestview Manor in Meredith. He was the beloved husband of the late Greta L. (Sykes) Shaw, to whom he was married for 62 years.

  • Jo Ann Hughes, 79

    Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
