---- — ATKINSON — Let’s start a conversation on energy! The Atkinson Energy Commission and Kimball Library are partnering to present “Powering a Bright Future”, a two-session discussion group allowing participants to explore energy issues. The first session will develop a basic understanding of energy sources and uses, sustainability and connections to climate change. In the second session, discussion participants will consider what changes need to be made and how we can address energy issues in our own lives. Brief articles will provide basis for discussion topics. Registrants can receive material electronically or as hardcopy. You need to register to take part in this unique opportunity.

Energy conversation sessions are being offered on Mon., October 21, and on Mon., November 4, starting at 7:00 p.m. Sign up early – registration is limited and you need advance materials to prepare.

Let’s start a conversation on ‘The Sandcastle Girls’, ‘The Body in the Library’, ‘The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (grades 5-8), or ‘Notes from the Midnight Driver’ (grades 9-12)! All of these titles are up for discussion sometime in the next four weeks. You can see there is great diversity amongst discussion by age and topic. Generally speaking, groups meet as follows in the order the titles occur: third Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m., fourth Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m., first Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., and second Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. We have books available at the main desk for all book groups. Stop by and pick up yours today!

Let’s start a conversation on how to get free downloadable books from the library. Tech THIS out! If you have an e-reader or gadget that you want to learn how to use with free library e-books or audio books, then we can help you. You can have a brief lesson here on your tech toy (Kindle, iPad, iPod, Nook or other device compatible with Overdrive) and learn how to put a free library e-book on it. This is a basic tutorial for newbies. Please register for a Friday morning or Wednesday evening appointment.

Let’s start a conversation on when you can get an extra day on your two-day loans. Please take note that the library will be closed on Mon., October 14, for Columbus Day Observed. If you take a two-day loan out on Fri., October 11, it will not be due until Tues., October 15.
