Queen Victoria to 'Visit'

Carriage Towne News

---- — HAMPSTEAD - On Tues., April 8, Queen Victoria will visit the Hampstead Public Library accompanied by her husband, Prince Albert. Sally Mummey portrays Victoria, only the third woman ever to reign as Queen of England. She came to the throne in 1837 as a very young woman with no experience or training in monarchy and, over the course of her 63 years as Queen, changed the course of British history.

Sally Mummey uses Victoria’s diary and letters to bring this extraordinary woman to life for us. She was intelligent, determined, and sometimes willful as those who questioned her suitability for the crown discovered. Not only did she reign with dedication and determination but she was also a devoted wife and mother to her children. The high moral standards she and her prince consort, Albert, set for behavior gave the period of her reign a name that to this day stands for morality and righteousness.

Sally Mummey is better known as a portrayer of Mary Todd Lincoln, wife and widow of Abraham Lincoln. Mummey became interested in Victoria as she researched the surviving correspondence between Mrs. Lincoln and the +Queen. She found that the two women had much in common in their lives in the public eye.

Please save the date and join living history presenter Sally Mummey as Queen Victoria at 7:00 p.m., on April 8th, at the Hampstead Public Library.
