---- — PLAISTOW — Come by the library to thank our director, Diane Arrato Gavrish, for her many contributions to the library the last few years. Diane’s vision of the library as a place where community, technology and the love of reading can coexist and thrive has inspired staff and patrons alike. Her last day will be June 30.
Start the month off right with a fun family film on Sat., June 1 at 10:30 a.m. Popcorn and drink will be provided. No registration required.
Congratulations to our Friends of the Library for a successful book sale! Thank you to the town for donating books or attending this event. Please ask at the desk for more information about joining or supporting the Friends, or come to the next Friends meeting on Mon., June 3 at 6:00 p.m.
A talk and slide show about the history of the Underground Railroad will be presented at the library on Tues., June 4 at 6:00 p.m., by Eleanor Strang. The Underground Railroad was the secret network that assisted fugitive slaves escaping to freedom. Ms. Strang will focus on the network on a national level, then on the abolitionist movement and Underground in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Ms. Strang was a librarian at the Kelley Library in Salem, for over thirty years, and its director for fifteen. Since retiring she has pursued her interest in American history, and presented this lecture at a variety of historical societies and public libraries. All are invited; admission is free. Light refreshments will be provided. Please preregister.
Attention teen writers, ages 13-19: Bring a 10-30 page work of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or collection of genres to the library by July 15, for a chance to win a $50.00 gift card and be interviewed by local authors Berry and Croft on their show Scrybes.
