---- — HAMPSTEAD - Do you love chocolate? While too much chocolate may not be good for you, just enough of the right kind can have health benefits. For a fun night of science, Mike Cross, professor of Chemistry at Northern Essex Community College, comes to the Hampstead Public Library on Tues., February 18, at 7:00 p.m., to discuss the joy that chocolate brings to your palate and the health benefits it offers your brain, heart and mood. MOVIE NIGHT - February movie night at the Library is on Thurs., February 27, at 6:30 p.m. The feature presentation stars Academy Award winner Tom Hanks as U.S. cargo-ship captain Richard Phillips. When his ship is pursued and captured by a handful of Somali pirates, Captain Phillips faces off against their leader in an effort to protect the lives of his crew. Phillips must strike a careful balance between strength and compliance if he and the men he is responsible for are to survive. This film was nominated for 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture.
FREE A.C.T. PRACTICE - More and more colleges are taking ACT scores into account when considering applicants. The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject tests in English, Mathematics, Reading and Science. High school students should consider familiarizing themselves with this standardized test. The Hampstead Public Library is teaming up with Sylvan to offer a free practice ACT at the library on Sat., March 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Advance registration is required by calling the library 603-329-6411 or emailing programsHPL@gmail.com. You do not have to be a Hampstead resident to participate. Results will be available by March 12.
BRIDGE CLUB - Are you a fan of bridge? Would you like to join other bridge enthusiasts? There is plenty of room in the Bridge Club at the Hampstead Public Library. They meet each Monday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., except on holidays. You do not need to be a Hampstead resident to participate. Newcomers are always welcome.
