---- — PLAISTOW —The library is honored this month with a display from Mr. Roy Jeffrey, Plaistow resident awarded 2013’s NH Legionnaire of the Year. The award itself, a bronze eagle, recognizes his outstanding leadership and service. Also in the case are three World War II participation medals, his dog tags, and a silver dollar he wore around his neck during the entire war. Mr. Jeffrey served in the Navy as a pharmacist mate, and also for the Marines, since the Marines did not have a medical department at that time so they drafted medical help from the Navy. He was 19 years old when he entered the service, in 1943. Fifty years after the war, letters Mr. Jeffrey had written in theater to his professor at Keene State College were found in a shoebox in a fraternity, Alpha Pi Tau. The alumni director contacted Mr. Jeffrey and copies of these letters are included in the display.

NH Singer/storyteller Steve Blunt will appear at the library’s “End of Summer Reading Extravaganza and Ice Cream Social” on Thurs., August 22 at 5:30 p.m. The performance is part of the library’s summer reading program theme, “Dig Into Reading.” It will include songs & stories with an underground theme: volcanoes, dinosaurs, etc. Steve Blunt has over twenty years’ experience in the arts and education; his CDs “Hang On, Henry!” and “Outta School!” are Parents’ Choice “Approved” Award Winners. This library event offers fun, upbeat musical entertainment for families with children of all ages.
