On behalf of the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Newton, the Newton Police Association cordially invites you and your family to the formal property dedication of “Federal City”, 8 Merrimac Road, which is the current home of the Newton Police Department.
As you are aware, the community purchased the property from the Bearce Family in the spring of this year.
Although the police department has been in the lower floor of the main building since March we thought it appropriate to have a formal dedication and community celebration where everyone could visit the property, tour the police station and enjoy some community fun.
The event will take place on Sat., September 8, from 12:00-4:00 p.m. The event will begin with a short ceremony involving a “Ribbon Cutting”, the first Raising of the Flag, and a few brief comments from local dignitaries.
The flag will be raised by the local Boy Scout Troop and Mr. John Meserve of the Merrimac Savings Bank. A new thirty foot pole was donated by the bank and the base was set with the labor provided by the Boy Scouts. The “raising” will include a “cannon salute” provided by Captain Morrill’s Company, of Kingston.
The event will also include a K-9 demonstration by the New Hampshire State Police Canine Unit, vehicles from two different antique car clubs, pony rides, police station tours, free hamburgers and hotdogs cooked by the local constabulary and pizza provided by Flat Bread Pizza of Amesbury, MA. And of course no police involved function would be complete without Donuts which, will be provided by Dunkin Donuts of Merrimac. T-shirts marking the event will be available from the Newton Police Association.
The Newton Fire Department will be on hand with apparatus and the Newton Recreation Committee will be jumping on board with yet an unannounced event.
