SRSD Deliberative Session

Kingston/Newton Community Members and Sanborn Regional School District Parents are urged to come out to show support for the School Committee’s budget at the Deliberative Session on Wed., February 6 at 7:00 p.m., at SRHS, which includes All Day Kindergarten for DJ Bakie and Memorial Schools.

Supporting all day Kindergarten means: Money is saved over time with fewer grade retentions and drop outs; money is saved immediately by eliminating the Kindergarten mid-day bus run (approx. $60,000); it’s a budget neutral move with school enrollment allowing for three Kindergarten classrooms and three first grade classrooms - now is the time!

Children are better prepared for first grade because they are afforded the time to address all Common Core State Standards for Kindergarteners; children show greater reading and math skill gains; children are offered social, emotional and intellectual benefits; children have more time to reflect on learning and activities and to transition between them, reducing stress; children have more time for child directed activities and creativity; teachers have more time to get to know children, identify learning needs and challenges early, which saves money and resources over time; longitudinal research demonstrates children reap the benefits of All Day Kindergarten throughout their school careers.

This is not only what is best for the children of Sanborn Regional School District, but also what is best for our entire community. A school that provides a high quality, all day Kindergarten program will attract relocating families to our towns.

Please come show your support for your community and our children at the Deliberative Session on Wed., February 6 at 7:00 p.m. at SRHS.
