Check Out healthcare.gov
With all the talk about the problems with the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) website (healthcare.gov), my experience shows how the ACA is having a real positive impact on New Hampshire residents. After several weeks of trying to complete my sign-up, I succeeded in early December in selecting a health insurance plan on the Exchange website, and my news is very rosy. My new plan cuts my deductible from $5,000 to $2,500, and my premium is also cut by hundreds of dollars each month! Those are very real savings that I can put to good use elsewhere.
As a self-employed freelance editor with a pre-existing medical condition, I was ineligible for individual insurance before the ACA was enacted. Fortunately, New Hampshire law made it possible for me to get a business policy, but it was increasingly expensive, so each year I traded down to a policy with a higher deductible. As of January 1, I have a better policy at a lower price thanks to Obamacare. I call that success!
I encourage anyone who is not covered by a workplace insurance policy to visit healthcare.gov to see what type of coverage they can obtain and compare prices. You have until the end of March to enroll for this year’s plans.
