---- — Time to Pass Newtown Legislation
It’s time for our Granite State to look to Connecticut and Maryland for gun violence legislation that makes sense. It’s time for our Senator Ayotte to recognize that our NH motto, “Live free or die,’” is on the way to becoming “Live free and die” if we don’t pass strong gun violence legislation.
We can be proud of New Hampshire’s hunting traditions and 2nd amendment rights, but we’re not waging a revolutionary war against England any more. We must not forget Greenland. And we cannot think Newtown is on another planet--Newtown is just like hundreds of NH towns. What happened there can happen in any of our towns and now is the time to head off that horrific eventuality.
It’s time to stop mouthing shallow platitudes about ‘guns don’t kill people, people kill people,’ and use our common sense to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, mandate background checks for all gun owners, ban gun trafficking, control private sales, and separate legitimate owners from the dangerous and mentally ill.
We lose more children - and adults - to gun violence than any other country in the world. Let’s change that in New Hampshire.
