Bills Won't Help NH Workers

The customer sales and service members we represent use payroll deductions for many of their services. For example: contributing to the United Way, paying premiums for life, home, health insurances, and union dues. In every case, it is an easy and time-efficient option - one that the member may choose because it works best for them and their families.

In a classic case of government overreach and interference, the New Hampshire Legislature is attempting to remove employees' right to manage their finances in a convenient way that works best for them.

Automatic deduction of union dues saves time for the workers and ensures that the condition of employment is guaranteed. HB 1163 and HB 1207 would eliminate this option. This is unfair and out of line. Government is interfering with a partnership between two businesses who are negotiating what is best for them and their employees.

Some Republican leaders in the New Hampshire House make claims that they are all about creating jobs and saving taxpayers money. However, these bills prove otherwise. Furthermore, they both should be rejected as political gimmicks that strip Granite Staters of their rights. HB 1163 and HB 1207 are wrong for New Hampshire workers and businesses.

  • Thank You Kingston Fire/Police

    Thank You Kingston Fire/Police
On April 3rd, I was awakened at 1:30 a.m. by our dog, Bella, who was licking my face, only to hear the fire alarm. I then woke my wife: there was two feet of thick black smoke in the room and house. I started to go wake my son, Vincent, and his fiance Merry, in their bedroom downstairs only to meet them at the stairs. Their dog, Titan, woke them up also. My son said to get out - there was fire in the wall by the pellet stove so we got out. My wife called 911 to report the fire as I grabbed the garden hose to fight the fire that was coming out the roof by the chimney.

    Non "Christians" are Taxpayers, too
Rep. Mike Kappler has put on his vestments and is playing pastor again. This time (My Opinion, April 26, 2012) he cites the recent spate of violence in New Hampshire and concludes that we must "Wake up...and move forward like real Christians." Has Mr. Kappler forgotten that he represents the public and not just Christians? Does Mr. Kappler think that only Christian taxpayers contribute to his government paycheck? Will he return that portion of his paycheck that is funded by the non-Christians of New Hampshire?

  • Health Reform Helps NH Women

    Health Reform Helps NH Women
For years, women were discriminated against by health insurance companies and their policies. Women were charged more than men for the same coverage. Their coverage could be capped or dropped when they got sick. And access to preventative care was often to expensive or limited. We also couldn't get coverage if we had an existing illness but Thanks to President Obama and the Affordable Care Act, these practices are no longer legal.

An Answer to "Civility: Where has it Gone?"
I agree with you. The time has come for people to be aware of what they're putting into the earth. They really need to care about their thoughts, their words, their deeds and the harm that they can do to those around who walk this earth along with me and you.

    Thank You Congressman Guinta
I would like to take the time to thank Congressman Frank Guinta. He is taking a different approach from the loyal opposition, in Washington D.C. They do not seem to be taking our fiscal problems very seriously. It has been nearly 1,100 days since the Senate last passed a budget, and the President's budget gained absolutely no support, even from his own party. Even Nancy Pelosi didn't believe the plan was up to the task!
