---- — The My Brother’s Keeper Quilt Group has been meeting in Rockingham County since 1998 and, during this time, the group has produced 547 “Ugly Quilts” and over 200 comfort quilts. Ugly Quilts are handmade sleeping bags that are warm and comforting, and they are distributed to The Homeless by area shelters.
As the founder of this group, I would like to say how proud I am of the wonderful people from our community who come together to make these quilts. I am always humbled by their wonderful work and dedication.
Today, at our meeting, we collected thirty-one quilts (our record for a single meeting) to be distributed to Emmaus House in Haverhill MA, as well as New Horizons for NH in Manchester. We also donate quilts to Liberty House (a shelter for homeless veterans).
I paused to take a photo of these amazing and warm hand sewn sleeping bags today with great pride.
The quilts pictured will be in the hands of homeless individuals in the state of New Hampshire by tomorrow evening, keeping them warm as temperatures drop and winter winds begin to blow.
I felt compelled to write this message today to express publicly how proud I am of this group of wonderful people who work hard. Members of this group give up a great deal of their time to make this project happen. These people know how important it is to give a hand to those who are in need, and cold, out there in our communities.
A huge Thank You to the My Brother’s Keeper Quilt Group, you are truly the best New Hampshire has to offer.
