To the Editor:

Great news for Kingston Open Space

Recently, the Tucker family agreed to convey a Conservation Easement on approximately 200 acres of land in the northwest corner of Town to the United States through the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and then generously donate the property to the Southeast Land Trust of NH, all at no cost to our Town.

But wait, there's more good news! The French family, which is Meadowsend Timber Corporation, a local business, has generously agreed to do the same thing on approximately 400 acres abutting the Tucker property, again at no cost to our Town. Friends of Kingston Open Space (FOKOS) has partnered with the Southeast Land Trust to facilitate conserving these 600 acres.

This means the $600,000 designated for purchase of the Tucker property will remain in the Land Acquisition Capital Reserve Fund for use on other Open Space efforts as our Town works towards fulfilling the goal of conserving 25 to 30 percent of our Town in Open Space according to Kingston's Master Plan.

These lands will be open for most recreational uses and will save us money by not requiring tax dollars to pay for services if land was to be developed.

To all who attended "The "Taste of the Towne" :

Thank you to all of the vendors who provided the wonderful food, the Spanish Boosters for hosting and to all of the members of the community who turned out to support the HMS kids!

Towards the end of the dinner, someone mistakenly gave away some bud vases that were on loan from a student's family. Two of the vases belonged to the student's grandmother. Apparently, people had been told they could take home the flowers from the vases or the recycled soda bottles serving as vases. Just like in the old game of "Telephone", as the word got around, the part about leaving the borrowed vases behind was left out.

The bud vases were as follows: two matching yellow two red bud vases, one blue glass "ruffled vase", one extra small clear vase with a green paperweight bottom, and one fluted green glass vase resembling a calla lily. If you have these vases, or know who may have them, please call 603 560-4990. Or the vases may be returned to the Middle school. We apologize for the confusion and would be most grateful if the vases could be returned!

Thank You

I wish to express my personal Thanks to the Cub Scout Pack 90 group and the Sanborn Regional High School students who came to our Senior Complex to sing Christmas Carols. They were great to hear and such a joy to see all those beautiful, happy faces. It brings back memories of when my own children and their Girl Scout Troops performed this service to the people of the town. I'm proud of all of you.

The snacks and hot chocolate was very good. Thank you to the high schoolers who brought us cookies, too.

'Ho Ho Ho’ to All Who Adopted

I wish to thank all the families and employees of area businesses who took their time and money and shopped for our families in need. I was humbled to meet you and also got to see the faces of the parents picking up their wrapped gifts in all shapes, and sizes. I saw joy, surprise, and tears. But more than that, I saw relief that there were plenty of presents to be shared during these difficult times, because of your generosity.

Thank you all so much for helping make the holidays brighter for these parents and their children. Thank you to the families of Chris LeCompte, Lynn Fitch, Susan Rogers, Darcy Horgan, Autumn Allen, Sonja Baroni, Jon and Ann Fox, Terri Lambert, and Jackie Sexton, and employees of Salient Technologies, Bonney Staffing, Social Security Administration, Timberland, and Resource Laboratories.   • Myron W. Cate

    RAYMOND — Myron W. Cate, 79, of Hay Springs, Nebraska died peacefully at home on August 20, 2010. Myron was born on February 23, 1931 in Manchester. He was a resident of Raymond, until he joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. He proudly served his country in both the Navy and then the Air Force during the Korean War. Myron's patriotism and strong love of American Freedom was seen as he was known to even carry a copy of the Bill of Rights and the US Constitution in his pocket.
