---- — Write-in Oljey for BudCom
I am writing to ask for support as a write-in candidate for the two-year position on the Kingston Budget Committee. I am very concerned that over the past several years, there have been vacancies on many of the town’s committees, and particularly, the Budget Committee.
My husband John and I have lived in Kingston since 1973, first in the home his parents built on Powwow Pond in the 1960s and, since 1989, in the Historic District on Main Street. John and I have both been active in organizations in town over the years. I was a founding member of the original Powwow Pond Council and served on the Board of Directors. I was a founding member and on the Board of Directors of Encore Theater Company, which raised well over $100,000 for charity during its existence and which donated to various organizations both in Kingston and regionally.
I am an alternate member on the Kingston Days Committee, having served as a member for several years previously. I am also on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Kingston Community House, Inc., the nonprofit organization that runs the Thrift Shop on Main Street and provides the volunteers and some monies for the senior lunches in town and special meals for our seniors.
In addition, I have managed a health-care facility in Massachusetts, a medical transcription service of my own, was Associate Administrator of the former Exeter Clinic in Exeter, and after “retiring,” owned and operated a 96-seat restaurant in town. I feel I have a comprehensive knowledge of the budget process as a result.
I feel that it is very important in these economic times that everyone’s voice is heard and that everyone works together for the betterment of the town. To that end I would like to add my voice to the workings of the Budget Committee. I have an open mind and could represent Kingston’s residents fairly and honestly. That is why I’d appreciate your write-in vote for the Kingston Budget Committee.
I can be reached at 642-5274. Thank you for your consideration.
