Carriage Towne News

---- — I must admit I’m a little surprised and dismayed by terms that have now become so commonplace, terms like secession, impeachment, tyranny and of course un- American. I want to start by suggesting a reality check. Lincoln through the movies lately has become a very hot topic so let me clear the air.

“Lincoln” by Steven Spielberg is factual.

“Lincoln” the vampire slayer is fiction.

Texas, Alabama and Mississippi are going to secede from the United States of America -- this is fiction.

The reason those states will not succeed is simple, you don’t bite the hand that feeds you. These states get back more money from the US government (welfare) than they contribute and that is a fact. (It’s always about the money).

This line of reasoning is tantamount to railing against social programs while living on Social Security.

If the citizens are not allowed to purchase any type of armament they want, from an assault rifle that fired 80 shots a second, to a rocket launcher, they won’t be able to repel the government troops in black helicopters. - This is fiction. Who are these government troops that we must be armed against? Don’t tell me we’re talking about the National Guard, United States Army, the US Marines etc. - one of the organizations of which I was a proud member.

It has always been my understanding that these organizations were in place to protect the people not attack them.

The invaders in black helicopters are figments on talk radio’s imagination.

When I was in the service (many years ago) I was a part of a team specializing in Atomic Demolition Munitions (ADM).

The idea was to place atomic munitions (basically atomic bombs) in strategic locations so if we were attacked by the communist nation’s we could set off the devices which would funnel the enemy troops into specific locations where they could be destroyed.

A small backpack type was also developed; fortunately all of this stuff was never used. (I was a volunteer; thank God this stuff was never used. I must’ve been crazy or just young!)

The fear mongering at that time parallels today’s anxiety about a non-existent force of government storm troopers (black helicopters).

All that preparation and money misspent and the darn Russians didn’t attack. How many people were falsely labeled communists causing them to lose their jobs and reputations?

If you follow history of great powers and America is the most powerful nation the world has ever known, they fall not so much from outside foreign forces but from within.

Take a normally decent core of people who are content to work hard, mind their own business and want only to be treated fairly as most Americans do, now submerge them in fear, anxiety, hatred, racism and lies and what do you get?

You get more fear, anxiety, hatred, racism and more lies.

One tends to wonder whatever happened to “Respect”.

I think the respect for another’s point of view is an integral ingredient in a fair and just Democratic society.

One of the founding fathers once said, “I may not agree with what you have to say but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
