On May 31st the Great Bay Discovery Center, located on 89 Depot Road in Greenland, hosted an Energy/Sustainability Day. Despite the weather we were very pleased with the turnout. We would like to thank several businesses in the area that helped us out by donating items for this special day.
Shaw’s Supermarket in Stratham and Exeter’s Stop and Shop donated cloth bags to use for shopping which we were able to give out free to visitors to the event. Scamman’s Home and Garden gave tomato plants to be given to families and Ron Laurence of Blueberry Bay gave us strawberry and raspberry plants to also give away. We greatly appreciated these items and the visitors to the event were also pleasantly surprised to get free gifts! Sweet Scoops of Brentwood dropped off enough frozen yogurt to let everyone have a free tasty treat. Magnusson’s Farms on Route 125 in Kingston shared the cost of a Jack’s rain barrel that we used in a display and are now using for our gardens. Exeter’s Water Street Bookstore did a great job putting together books dealing with energy and sustainability topics and then donated 20 percent of all sales to the Center. These books can still be purchased at the store.
We also appreciated the vendors and local groups who took part in this event. Thank you to the volunteers at the Center and to the staff who helped make the day a success and thank you to the public for taking such an interest in energy and sustainability.
