DURHAM - Great wineries from around the world, such as Beringer, Stags’ Leap, Frescobaldi, Joseph Phelps, Louis Jadot and dozens more are joining forces with the University of New Hampshire’s Department of Hospitality Management on Tues., April 30 to offer tastings of hundreds of wines accompanied by chef demos, a raw bar, roast carving stations, international cheeses and live music at the third annual Wine Expo NH. The event takes place at the Whittemore Center in Durham, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Chefs Tom Perron from Mombo Restaurant in Portsmouth and Evan Hennessey from Stages at One Washington and Flavor Concepts Catering in Dover will conduct demos and sample their local specialties. Banfi Vintners will also be bringing a visiting chef from Italy. Topping off this wine and food grand tasting will be Seaport Fish of Portsmouth and Kittery, ME, supplying ocean-fresh oysters at a raw bar. The Tim Theriault Trio, a crowd pleaser every year, playing a blend of pop, rock and R&B, have been booked again.
Hospitality Management student-volunteers work alongside the wine professionals and answer questions about the hundreds of wines available giving the students the opportunity to work on a large event before graduating.
“It is a win-win collaboration” Clayton Barrows, Professor and Chair of the Department, said. Last year’s student scholarship recipients, Jacqueline McCarrick and Sara Schmidt were honored at the Expo.
The event’s facebook page will contain updates on participating wineries along with offering a post event Contest: attendees are encouraged to post reviews of their favorite wines tasted at the Expo. The most creative reviews will win NH Liquor Store gift certificates.
The cost is $35.00 per person or $25.00 for students over 21 with ID. Ticket sales can be purchased online at www.wineexponh.com.
