Race of the Century

Carriage Towne News

---- — ROCHESTER – The “Running Nuns” of St. Charles Children’s Home in Rochester, are pleased to announce the Race of the Century. This year’s race is special because it marks the beginning of a full year of celebration of the founding of the Saint Charles Children’s Home in Rochester. The annual Labor Day 5k Road Race will be held on Labor Day, September 2, starting at 9:00 a.m., at the Pease International Tradeport. Register and learn more about the road race at Runningnuns.com.

The road race is the major fundraiser for the St. Charles Home, which is a program of New Hampshire Catholic Charities and is run by the Daughters of Mary Mother of Healing Love. The proceeds from the race have been used to help hundreds of children since the race began 17 years ago. This year the funds raised will be used to expand a new program launched last year that focuses on helping children with behavioral or emotional problems who cannot remain inside a traditional classroom.

The school intervention program allows these students to separate from the classroom on a temporary basis while the Sisters address their individual needs with dignity and respect that is the trademark of the St. Charles Home. The first year of the program has been a great success, witnessing dramatic transformation of troubled children, and proceeds from the race will enable the Sisters to help more children.
