CONCORD —The 2013 NH Tree Farm Program annual Field Day will take place on Sat., September 7 at the Therrien Tree Farm in Canterbury, rain or shine. Please park at NH Motor Speedway, Route 106 in Loudon.
Schedule of Events:
Forest Management Tour - 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. - Walk on cleared forest trails with the land owner Ned Therrien to see examples of thirty years of management on Ames Road Forest. Stops will be made to see current management of oak/pine, thinning of white pine, road construction, wood duck boxes, wetlands/beaver management, pruning and release of white pine, and protection of vernal pools. Foresters and biologists will be at each stop to discuss management and answer your questions.
Invasive Plant Tour - 9:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. - Take a short walk (one half mile round trip) with forester Mike Powers to view and discuss invasive plant management. Ames Road Forest has been spraying for invasive plants for the past four years. View the plants and get your invasive plant control questions answered.
Overlook Walk: at your leisure- three hundred yards to overlook to a view of the Belknap Range. Take a seat in the Aldo Leopold Bench to enjoy the view. Seven stops along the walk will tell of the management and history of Ames Road Forest.
Guitar duo Michael & Tony Hauser play flamenco and classical guitar at the main tent at 11:30 a.m.
Pig Roast and chicken barbecue is served at 12:15 p.m. They will also hand out awards, award raffle prizes, and announce winners of the silent auction. Items including a generous donation by the New Hampshire Motor Speedway of four tickets to the September 22, 2013 race, and four pre race pit passes. This donation will be a silent auction item. Tickets to the New Hampshire Tree Farm Field Day are $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children under 12.
