Irish Coffeehouse Concert

EXETER - Get your Irish on for St. Patrick’s Day with a fun evening at the Irish Coffeehouse Concert at the Congregational Church in Exeter on Sat., March 16, at 7:30 p.m.

The concert will include the New England Irish Harp Orchestra and the local Irish band “Réagánta.” The audience will be seated at small tables in the church vestry, and will be served delicious desserts, included in the price. Suggested donations are $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for students and seniors, and children under 8 are free.

The New England Irish Harp Orchestra is in its eighth year performing traditional Irish tunes and ballads. This is a diverse group of about 12 harpers from Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, with their bases in Exeter and Cambridge, MA.

“Réagánta” is a local trio of musicians performing dance tunes of Ireland, soulful ballads and airs. The band consists of Regina Delaney on harp, vocals, and step-dancing, Claudia Altemus on whistle, vocals, and storytelling, and Gene Durkee on guitar and vocals. Regina teaches Irish step, set, and ceili dancing at the Exeter Recreation Department, and she will encourage the audience at the concert to sing and dance.

The Music Committee at the Exeter Congregational Church, under the leadership of Lori Cunningham and Sally Wool, co-chairs, will host the event. Proceeds will benefit the music program and organ fund of the church. The church, at 21 Front Street, is handicapped accessible.
