Victorian Christmas

Carriage Towne News

---- — AMESBURY — Come and enjoy the seasonal ambience of a Victorian Christmas at the historic John Greenleaf Whittier Home Museum on Sat., November 30, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. This annual event is offered free to members of the community each year and includes an open Gift Shop, offering unique gifts of reading for all ages. In addition, the gifts are wrapped at no additional cost.

An ornate, handmade Wall Hanging along with grand poinsettia plants will be raffled worth proceeds to benefit the upkeep of the home.

“This year the entire property was painted and shutters replaced at a cost of more than $20,000. Updating alarm and fire systems, seeking alternative ways to heat the home (kept at bare minimum during the winter months), and seeking much needed personnel for the office and Collections department are all part of the costs associated with keeping this space an active educational site fostering the legacy and history of the famed Quaker poet, abolitionist, “says Cynthia Costello, President of the WHA. The recently received prestigious Yankee Quill Award plaque will proudly be on display as well.

Rosemary Werner will chair the Hospitality Committee that will offer a variety of seasonal sweets, cheeses, fruits, and a traditional Christmas cake donated by Rita Mullis. Hot mulled cider and eggnog punch bowls will decorate the fanciful table display.

In the background there will be seasonal music played by Mrs. Costello, who invites people to join in on a carol or two.

John Greenleaf Whittier Home Museum is located at 86 Friend St., Amesbury, MA. For additional details, call 978-388-1337.
