Musical Comedy

NEWBURYPORT, MA —Firehouse Center for the Arts in beautiful downtown Newburyport presents, the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a Tony Award winning musical comedy.

With a quirky cast of all adults playing middle school kids, this hilarious show chronicles the angst of six adolescent overachievers vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. With laugh-out-loud lyrics and incredible knock-your-socks-off voices, we are introduced to endearing characters, like Mitch, an ex-con who is fulfilling his community service duty by handing out juice boxes to losing students - and Chip, an overly confident boy scout who has an unfortunate “hormonal event” on stage. Yikes!

The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will have you absolutely howling with laughter and singing in your seats. Two weekends: June 19-29, Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m., Sunday matinees at 3:00 p.m.

Tickets are $28.00 for Adults, $26.00 for Members, Students, Seniors. For tickets, call 978-462-7336, or visit
