---- — GREENLAND — The Great Bay Discovery Center is seeking volunteers for the Exhibit Room and School Program Educators.

Exhibit Room: If you are looking for an opportunity to spend some time this summer meeting new people in a beautiful location, the Great Bay Discovery Center is the place for you! The Exhibit Room will begin its open season on May 4, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays. Volunteers are needed to work three hour shifts, either 10:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. or 1:00–4:00 p.m.

As an Exhibit Room Volunteer, you will be greeting visitors and teaching them about Great Bay, the Seacoast’s amazing hidden jewel. Other duties include answering questions, teaching about and handling live animals in the touch tank such as horseshoe crabs, lobsters and flounder, and manning the small store. On Thurs., April 11, from 10:00 a.m. – noon, a training will be held for all new and returning volunteers at the Great Bay Discovery Center. Please call 603-778-0015 to register.

School Program Educators: On Wed., April 10 the Great Bay Discovery Center is holding its annual spring educator training at the Hugh Gregg Coastal Conservation Center, 89 Depot Road in Greenland. The training runs from 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and includes a complete run-through of the actual school program.

The training will prepare you for teaching small groups of children about the natural history of the Great Bay Estuary. Some of the lessons include a mudflat exploration, vernal pool stop, boardwalk activity with plant and track identification and indoor lessons on horseshoe crabs with a touch tank component. All the programs are mornings only and run about 2.5 hours each. The children are from schools all over NH and range from grades 1-5.

Volunteers sign up for dates that are convenient for them. The training session is free with snacks, lunch and all teaching materials provided. Registration for the training is required by calling the Center at 603-778-0015 or emailing

The Great Bay Discovery Center is located just off Route 33 on the Stratham/Greenland town line at 89 Depot Road. The Center opens to the public on May 4 but the grounds are open from dawn to dusk year round.
