'The Goonies' at Prescott Park

PORTSMOUTH —Prescott Park Arts Festival will feature The Goonies on their outdoor big screen on Mon., July 8 as part of the Service Credit Movie Series in Prescott Park. Held each Monday night at dusk, festival goers can enjoy some of the most popular and beloved films of all time in Portsmouth's Prescott Park.

The Goonies (1985), written by Steven Spielberg and directed by Richard Donner, is a classic comedy adventure entertaining for all ages. After a group of ordinary kids discover a secret treasure map, their sleepy seaport lives are suddenly transformed into a fun-filled roller-coaster ride adventure. Their journey takes them into a spectacular underground realm of twisting passages, outrageous booby-traps and a long-lost pirate ship full of golden doubloons.

"It's hilarious, thrilling, fantastical, and unique it really embodies everything about a classic film that we love to show here in the Park,” explains Ben Anderson, "I still can remember the first time I saw this movie. It really is a must see for any generation.”

Other films to be screened in the park will include Up on July 22, the movie series first double feature of Finding Nemo and Jaws on July 29, Skyfall 007 on August 5, Despicable Me on August 12, The Avengers on August 26, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid on August 29, Anchorman on September 6 and The Shining on September 7. Be sure to mark your calendars for two special guests who will be featured before films in Prescott Park this season. Joe Stevens, the legendary rock and roll raconteur and photojournalist, will share photos and highlights of his larger-than-life career and before the screening of Almost Famous on Mon., July 15. On Mon., August 19, internationally acclaimed author Dan Brown will be featured on stage for a moderated Q&A session before the showing of the film based on Brown's own novel, Angels and Demons.

Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
