Irish Balladeer to Perform

Carriage Towne News

---- — HAMPSTEAD - St. Patrick‚Äôs Day will soon be here and to celebrate the good St. Paddy, the Friends of the Hampstead Public Library will present Irish Balladeer Paul Carroll in a program of Irish songs and stories on Tues., March 11, at 7:00 p.m.

Paul Carroll was born and brought up in Dublin but emigrated to Australia when he was only 19 because work was hard to come by in Ireland at the time. Music was ingrained in his being thanks to his mother, a fine singer in Dublin. He brought his love of music to Australia with him. He sang in the folk pubs of Sydney, Perth and Melbourne at first and then helped found the popular Irish band Poteen. Poteen became the premier Irish band in Australia.

After marrying in Australia a woman from Medford, MA, Paul and his new family came to the U.S. and settled in East Derry. He worked for Gillette for many years but continued to keep his musical hand in until he retired. Since his retirement he has performed at various venues in the area including Hampstead Academy, the Coffee Factory coffeehouse in Derry, the Atkinson Country Club and the Derry Public Library.

Please mark your calendars for March 11th and join Paul Carroll and the Friends of the Library for an evening of Irish song and story. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available. Members of the Friends are asked to remain after the program for the regular monthly meeting of the organization.
