Students on the Rise: May 23, 2013

The University of New Hampshire at Manchester has announced the Dean’s List for the fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. Local students honored include: East Hampstead - Ilyssa Sherman, Psychology; East Kingston - Erin Kerr-Hughes, Sign Language Interpretation; Kingston - Celina Micale, Sign Language Interpretation; Plaistow - Nicole Romanuk, Communication Arts; Raymond - William Cabana, Computer Information Systems; Sandown - Charles Dolan, Business Administration; Aimee Berry, Psychology.

Lakes Region Community College in Laconia, announces the President’s and Vice President’s lists for the Fall session ending in December 2012. Local students honored include: President’s List: Eric Belschner of Kingston, Travis Clark of Hampstead; Vice President’s List: Darren Bilodeau of Epping.

Members of the Seacoast Civic Dance Company (SCDC) received high scores and top awards during the recent Access Broadway Regional dance competition on January 19 and 20, in Mystic, CT. Competing eleven pieces in jazz, contemporary, hip hop, lyrical and tap, the troupe proudly took home six Platinum, five Hi-Gold and six First Place (in division) awards. Dancers attending the ACCESS Broadway event included: Cloud Bogart, Kristin Burke, Leigh Cavanaugh, Courtney Chedid, Adela Coleman, Jessica Costa, Rebecca Costa, Gabrielle Diaz, Stephanie Diecidue, Emily Durant, Noah Dwyer, Adreana Dziadosz, Leia Dziadosz, Alli Eames, Abby Hartnett, Hayley Kenyon, Zoe Kerens, Hannah Kirby, Marcus Lundgren, Felicia MacQuarrie, Caroline Metzger, Brooke Moylan, Erica Nastasia, Kira O’Donnell, Michaela O’Leary, Smantha Paquette, Kassidy Perin, Isabella Rosa, Asele Sinagra, Chloe Smithy, Kayla Tarnowski, Alyssa Vacca, Paige Wolcik and Taylor Yeley. Students are from the towns of Amesbury, Seabrook, Newburyport, Sandown, South Hampton, Hampton, Salisbury, Rye and Brentwood. For more information about the SCDC and/or NHAPA, visit www.nhapa.org.

The following students completed their academic degree programs at the University of New Hampshire’s campus in Manchester in December 2012: Hampstead - Stefanie Ellen Dubiel, Bachelor of Arts in English; Justin Thomas Vandette, Bachelor of Arts in Business, Cum Laude; Sandown - Charles Dolan, Associate of Science in Business Administration.

  •  Successful Conservation Collaboration

    On June 17, the sophomore class of Sanborn Regional High School made a field trip to the Old Frye Town Forest, one of Kingston's five town forests, to assist the Kingston Conservation Commission in the removal of invasive plants from the area near the trailhead, notably, an extensive and aggressive patch of Japanese knotweed. This project was the culmination of the school's third year of intra-curricular collaboration with the Commission to address local environmental issues, and to make conservation an area of study and research. Congratulations from the Commission to the teachers and students for a job well done!

  • Miss Fremont Crowned

    Amanda Arsenault, 17, pictured above, was crowned Miss Fremont during the towns’ 250th celebration. Formerly known as “Olde Poplin”, many events took place at varied locations in town. Amanda is the daughter of Katherine and Steven Arsenault.

  • Students Donate to Exeter Hospital ER

    Kindergarten students from Kensington Elementary School recently made a donation to Exeter Hospital with funds raised during a unit to learn about the importance of community. The children chose to donate the money for teddy bears to be given to children who come into the Emergency Department (ED). Teacher Barbara Greenwood also presented the ED with a large book of drawings and handwritten notes from the children.
