Successful Fundraiser

Recently Ms Belville's class at Sanborn Middle School, along with the help of Doreen Larson and Vicki Colcord, completed a huge community service project to benefit the Soles4Souls organization.  Working with School Nurse Tracy Gilmartin, students Ronny Dube, Brandon Stafford, Sophia Rak, Travis Lynch, Abagail Tavares, Katarina Stasinos, Adam Gundersen, Peter Chambers and Alexis Eaton hosted a school wide shoe drive for the Nashville-based charity that provides free shoes to needy people worldwide.  All shoes collected will be refurbished by the Soles4Souls and distributed to areas most in need.

Not only did the students collect 136 pairs of shoes to donate, but they were surprised to learn that they would have to cover the cost of shipping the boxes of shoes.  They decided to hold a bake sale to raise the needed money for shipping!  The bake sale was a huge success and provided more than enough money to complete their Soles4Souls campaign.  Both Ms. Belville and Nurse Gilmartin were thrilled with the enthusiasm and organization the kids showed to see the project through to the end, despite some bumps in the road.

  • Successful Conservation Collaboration

On June 17, the sophomore class of Sanborn Regional High School made a field trip to the Old Frye Town Forest, one of Kingston's five town forests, to assist the Kingston Conservation Commission in the removal of invasive plants from the area near the trailhead, notably, an extensive and aggressive patch of Japanese knotweed. This project was the culmination of the school's third year of intra-curricular collaboration with the Commission to address local environmental issues, and to make conservation an area of study and research. Congratulations from the Commission to the teachers and students for a job well done!
