Students on the Rise


Colleen Regan of Hampstead, was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree at Bentley University on May 19. Colleen majored in Marketing and a double minor in Management & Health and Industry at Bentley, and plans to attend graduate school. Her undergraduate activities included several internships, including a position as a public relations intern at the Castle Group in Charlestown, MA, an active brother of the international business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi, a study abroad experience in Thessaloniki, Greece, a Bentley University Orientation Leader and International Peer Advisor, as well as Habitat for Humanity South Palm Beach county participant. Colleen previously attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, and is the daughter of John and Sue Regan.

The U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) invited a select group of approximately 2,250 young men and women from around the nation and abroad to attend the Naval Academy Summer Seminar program this year. Summer Seminar is fast- paced leadership experience for rising seniors in high school. This program helps to educate, motivate and prepare selected students who are considering to applying for admission to USNA. Ariel Fleischer, a student at Exeter High School in Exeter, will participate in the 2012 U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar Program.

Sam Wallace of Brentwood, a student at Exeter High School has earned a National Merit Finalist position. He is one of two seniors at Exeter High School earning the honor this year.

Endicott College announced that the following students have been named to the Dean's List for the fall term 2011. Local students honored include: Morgan Whitney DeShaw, daughter of Paul and Cheryl DeShaw of Danville, and Shayne Robert Lockard, son of Brian and Julie Lockard of Danville.

Katy Ebner of East Hampstead has been named to the Dean's List at Lyndon State College for the fall 2011 semester. Katy is the daughter of Brent and Mary Ebner and is majoring in Mountain Recreation Management and Human services.

Head of School Craig Sellers is pleased to announce that Tianbao Li '12 of Sandown has received Academic Highest Honors for the winter term at The Derryfield School. Jamie Cordova '12 of Atkinson, Rosalind KennyBirch '13 of Exeter, Anna Aboody '13 and Lucas Romanowsky '13 of both of Hampstead, and Mathieu Mina '12 and Nikolete Mina '15, both of Raymond, received Academic High Honors for the winter term at The Derryfield School. In addition, Allison Halchak-Lord '12 and Maxwell Hatheway '15, both of Atkinson, Abigail Durant '12 of Hampstead, and Patrick Hampson '13 of Sandown have received Academic Honors for the winter term at The Derryfield School The following students have made the second-quarter honor roll at Austin Preparatory School in Reading, Mass: Distinction: Maura Smith of Atkinson, Grade 6, and Honors: Riley Smith of Atkinson.

The following students enrolled at Virginia Tech were named to the Dean's List for the fall 2011 semester: Michael J. Bilynsky of Epping, a freshman majoring in university studies at Virginia Tech; Austin R. Powers of Raymond, a senior majoring in chemical engineering in the College of Engineering; Zachary J. Gajewski of Danville, a freshman majoring in biological sciences in the College of Science; and Brian P. Gendreau of East Hampstead, a senior majoring in mathematics in the College of Science.

The Heronfield Academy Jazz Choir and Jazz Combo, performing together, won a Gold Medal at the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education's (M.A.J.E.) High School Jazz Choir and Jazz Combo State Finals, held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, on April 4. The groups competed against the best high school Jazz Choirs and Combos in Massachusetts. In addition to performing with the Jazz Choir, the Heronfield Academy Middle School Jazz Combo also competed at the high school State Finals, winning a Silver Medal for their excellent performance.
