Students on the Rise

Wentworth Institute of Technology has announced Joseph Cruz of Plaistow has earned Dean’s List recognition for the Spring 2013 semester.

North Shore Community College President Wayne Burton is pleased to announce that the following local students graduated from the college on May 23: Gregory Komornick of Atkinson; Matthew Tulley of East Hampstead; Elaine Meehan of Exeter; Alicia McIntire of Kingston; Crystal Curley of Newton; and Carla Brancaccio of Stratham.

The Red Sox Foundation honored Leah Johnson of Fremont, as a Red Sox Scholar at a Red Sox vs. Cleveland Indians game at Fenway Park in June. The Red Sox Scholars Program is an honor awarded by the Red Sox Foundation, the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox. Through the program, the Red Sox Foundation awarded a $1,000 college scholarship to thirty-five college-bound high school seniors in New Hampshire Public Schools.

At Iowa State University’s spring commencement ceremonies on May 10, 3,769 students received degrees. Sarah Elizabeth Stewart of Atkinson was graduated with a BS in Meteorology.

Tulane University awarded degrees to more than 2,800 graduates on May 18, in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Local student, Patrick I. Coll of Kingston, was graduated from the Tulane University School of Liberal Arts with a Master of Fine Arts degree.

Northeastern University is pleased to recognize those students who distinguish themselves academically during the course of the school year. The following local residents were recently named to the University’s Dean’s List for the spring semester, which ended in April 2013: Brentwood resident Miranda S Beggin, a student majoring in International Business; Exeter resident Olivia M St. Martin, a student majoring in Undeclared; Exeter resident Farris S Nabulsi, a student majoring in Chemical Engineering; Exeter resident Allison Wilson, a student majoring in Communication Studies; and Newfields resident Aaron J Hager, a student majoring in Business Administration.

The following local students received diplomas received a degree from Norwich University at a May 11 commencement ceremony: Christopher R. Cummings of East Kingston, Computer Security - Info Assur.; Zachary R. Arnold of Epping, Mechanical Engineering; Sean P. McCormack of Epping, Communications; Sean Lyon Southworth of Exeter, Management; Daniel Nathan White of Exeter, Criminal Justice; and Nicholas Peter Losapio of Kensington, Engineering Management.

  •  Successful Conservation Collaboration

    On June 17, the sophomore class of Sanborn Regional High School made a field trip to the Old Frye Town Forest, one of Kingston's five town forests, to assist the Kingston Conservation Commission in the removal of invasive plants from the area near the trailhead, notably, an extensive and aggressive patch of Japanese knotweed. This project was the culmination of the school's third year of intra-curricular collaboration with the Commission to address local environmental issues, and to make conservation an area of study and research. Congratulations from the Commission to the teachers and students for a job well done!

    Amanda Arsenault, 17, pictured above, was crowned Miss Fremont during the towns’ 250th celebration. Formerly known as “Olde Poplin”, many events took place at varied locations in town. Amanda is the daughter of Katherine and Steven Arsenault.

  • Students Donate to Exeter Hospital ER

    Kindergarten students from Kensington Elementary School recently made a donation to Exeter Hospital with funds raised during a unit to learn about the importance of community. The children chose to donate the money for teddy bears to be given to children who come into the Emergency Department (ED). Teacher Barbara Greenwood also presented the ED with a large book of drawings and handwritten notes from the children.
