Students on the Rise

Congratulations to Lexie Basiliere of Kingston! Lexie was recently named one of twenty finalists from New Hampshire in the 2011 Wendy's High School Heisman Award Program. This award places Lexie among the top students in the nation. The Wendy's High School Heisman is awarded in recognition of outstanding achievements in Athletics, Academics and Leadership. Lexie is a senior at Sanborn Regional High School. Great job Lexie!

Atkinson resident Benjamin Onett has accepted a scholarship offer from Temple University. He was recruited to Temple by Scott Loeffler, the Offensive Coordinator who coached at Michigan. Onett had thirteen offers including Cincinnati JMU, VMI, Temple, Buffalo, and Marshall, and garnered interest from Purdue, Arkansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Purdue, NC State, and UNC. The decision was made based on a combination of academics, ability to start as a freshman and location. Onett states that he is grateful to his local coaches for their support and knows their belief in him helped motivate him to take it to the next level.

Phillips Exeter Academy has announced the following students have earned academic achievements for the Fall 2011 term. Alexander J. Greaney, grade 10, has earned Highest Honors. Alexander is the son of Heidi and Kevin Greaney of Kingston. Conan S. Sang, grade 12, of Brentwood, earned High Honors. Conan is the son of Mr. Fred Sang and Mrs. Jennifer Fan. Marc L. Steele, grade 10, of Danville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Steele, earned Honors. Hannah E. Keane, grade 10, of Fremont, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Keane, earned Honors.

Sgt. Shane S. Bailey, USMC, of Kingston, son of Arnold W. Bailey of Kingston, was awarded a Associate in Applied Science degree from Thomas Edison State College.

The following local students have been named to the Dean's List at Lasell College: Ashley Allen of Plaistow (Class of 2012), IDS Elementary Education; and Emily Gorski of Sandown (Class of 2014), Communication.

Local 4-H member Brandie Rice of Fremont recently attended the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, GA as a representative from the New Hampshire 4-H program. National 4-H Congress is a five-day conference where 4-H youth from around the nation gather to develop their leadership and citizenship skills. Rice was selected through a rigorous statewide resume submission and interview process. She was one of only five teens selected to be a New Hampshire representative. North Shore Community College President Wayne Burton is pleased to announce that the students listed below were Dean's List students for the Fall 2011 semester: Atkinson - Gregory Kormornik; East Hampstead - Danielle Grover; Exeter - Elaine Meehan, Cynthia Scolameiro; Kingston - Emily Belisle; Newton - Shannon Krisko; Plaistow - John Zaccone; and Sandown - Kayla Boucher, Bonnie Griffin.

Regional Services and Education Centers, Inc., (RSEC) a non-profit educational collaborative that provides comprehensive educational programs and services to southern New Hampshire, is pleased to announce Andrew Rocha of Kensington was named to the Honor Roll for the first quarter of 2011-2012 school year at Longview School in Deerfield.

Michael Peter Von Zirpolo, of Danville, is among 4,100 undergraduate students at the University of Iowa named to the UI Dean's List for the 2011 fall semester. Michael is majoring in Liberal Arts and Sciences.

4-H members Morgan King and Colleen McCormack of Epping, along with Brittany Wheeler of Merrimack County, attended the National 4-H Citizenship Forum in Washington D.C. over the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend. The focus of the conference was to learn about citizenship and civic engagement and to create a plan to increase community involvement in their own counties.

The following area students have recently graduated from NHTI, Concord's Community College during the Fall 2011 term: Moriah Mahala of Epping, Associate in Science with a Major in General Studies and Joseph LaMontagne of Newmarket, Associate in Science with a Major in Criminal Justice.

Emily Bergan of Exeter and Daniel Duston of Hampstead have been named to the Dean's List for the fall 2011 semester at the University of Connecticut.

Because of their outstanding academic performance during the Fall 2011 semester, the following students earned their place on UNH Manchester's Dean's List: Atkinson - Laura Crocco, English; Danville - Laura Bush, Psychology; Fremont - Alycia Scally, English; Hampstead - Emma Kenney, Undeclared; Plaistow - Melissa Silveira, Psychology; Raymond - Mikaela Mandeville, Business; Tabatha Zimmermann, Business Administration; Sandown - Victoria DiPippo, Humanities; Stratham - Kyle Trinward, Business.

  • Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown, 66

    Ft. Gibson, OK — Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown passed away February 17, 2013, at her home in Ft. Gibson, Okla., after a brave battle with cancer. Kitty was born in Brentwood, N.H., on April 21, 1946, to the late Chester H. Clements and Catherine F. (Morse) Clements. She was raised in Kingston, N.H., and graduated from Sanborn Seminary. She lived for many years on Plum Island, Mass. While living on Plum Island, she was a columnist and photographer for The Daily News of Newburyport, as well as a school bus driver.

  • Ted "Teddy" Bolduc

    Fremont, N.H. — Ted “Teddy” Burleigh Bolduc, was born the youngest son of Phyllis and Joseph Bolduc Sr., on May 22, 1962. He died suddenly April 8, 2013, after a brief illness. Ted lived for most of his life in Fremont and Raymond. He was well known for his skills with heavy equipment and worked all his life in construction and excavation in the Fremont and Epping area. In addition to his work, he loved ice hockey, baseball, hunting, country music, and animals, especially his dog Finlay. He was very proud of, and also loved by, his very large family.
