4-H Horse Project Awards

BRENTWOOD - The hard work 4-H members invested in their horse projects through participation in Horse Circuit Shows was honored at a year-end banquet hosted by the Rockingham County 4-H Leaders Association. The banquet was held in the Hilton Auditorium at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.

4-H members ages 8-18 work with their horses to become a team improve with each show through the season as well as from year to year. Classes include Showmanship, Equitation, Pleasure, Trail, Riding Pattern, Hunter Under Saddle, Barrels, and a Knowledge Quiz. The members earn points for placement at each show as well as earning trophies and ribbons for their efforts.

The participants winning top honors were: Zachary Gleason, Danville, High Point Walk/ Trot English or Western Rider; Jackie Johnson, Brentwood, High point Junior Hunt Seat Rider; Cody Gleason, Danville, High Point Junior Western Rider; Kelsey Escobar, Kingston, High Point Senior Rider Western Rider (fourth year in a row); Maggie Kenter, Kingston, High Point Senior Hunt Seat Rider; Elizabeth Gaffney, Dracut Mass., Top Pleasure Western Rider; Rosalie Toupin, Dracut, Mass., Top Junior for Showmanship and Pleasure; Maggie Kenter and Karissa Martin, Epping, shared the high overall Knowledge Quiz member award; Kelsey Escobar, Top overall Reserve High Point for all seats; Maggie Kenter, Top overall High Point for all Seats.

Additional honors given out at the banquet include the Good Sportsmanship Award, presented to Cody Gleason for displaying the best example of sportsmanship throughout the year. The Leaders Choice Award, to honor a non-rider displaying leadership, cooperation, sportsmanship and helpfulness throughout the year, voted on by the Leaders Association went to Jestina Gleason, Danville.

The Bear Meadow Farm, Karen Morton Memorial trophy for club with the highest active membership participating in 4-H sponsored activities went to the Derry True Blue Trotters.

The association wished members (and their horses) who are finishing participation with the 4-H Youth Development Program well in their future plans. The association said goodbye to Sarah Cote of Andover, Mass., Hannah Proulx of Raymond and Kelsey Escobar.

    Amanda Arsenault, 17, pictured above, was crowned Miss Fremont during the towns’ 250th celebration. Formerly known as “Olde Poplin”, many events took place at varied locations in town. Amanda is the daughter of Katherine and Steven Arsenault.

  • Students Donate to Exeter Hospital ER

    Kindergarten students from Kensington Elementary School recently made a donation to Exeter Hospital with funds raised during a unit to learn about the importance of community. The children chose to donate the money for teddy bears to be given to children who come into the Emergency Department (ED). Teacher Barbara Greenwood also presented the ED with a large book of drawings and handwritten notes from the children.     Brittney Bullock, daughter of Wayne and Linda Bullock, is the valedictorian of the Class of 2014. Brittney has been a four year member of the varsity Basketball Team, a three year member of the Spirit Team, and has also participated in varsity soccer and Unified Track. In addition to athletics, Brittany was inducted into the National Honor Society in her sophomore year, she served as Junior Class secretary, and she has been a member of the Student Leadership Team for three years. Brittany has collected numerous accolades for academics and athletics in her four years at Epping High School, among those are the Harvard Book Award, the Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award, the NH Basketball Coaches Organization All-Academic Team Award, the NHIAA Scholar Athlete Award, the Epping Varsity Basketball Coaches Award, New Hampshire Scholars Award, and Top Ten Award for all four years of high school. At Epping High’s 2014 Awards Night, Brittney received the US Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award, the Advance Placement Statistics Award, and the EHS Top Female Athlete Award. Brittney will be attending the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences majoring in Premedical Health Studies in the Physician Assistant Program.
